Hellenic Association of Women with Breast Cancer "Alma Zois"
Hellenic Association of Women with Breast Cancer “Alma Zois” is a non-profit organization founded in 1988 by breast cancer survivors with one vision: a world without deaths because of breast cancer.
Its uniqueness lies in the fact that all the members, volunteers and members of the Board are breast cancer survivors.
In the years of each operation, Alma Zois is now an Organization of more than 2000 members and also has a great force of educated volunteers, helping hundrends of women in Greece.
Alma Zois has a Social Service, Psychological Service, Patients' legal advisor, PR and Communications department and a secretariat.
Basic pillars of the Organization are:
- Breast Cancer Awareness and information for breast cancer prevention and early diagnosis,
- Peer support
- Patients empowerment and psychosocial support
All scientific programs of the Organization are designed and co-ordinated by mental health specialists and is approved by the interdisciplinary committee and the Board of Directors.

Vision
Our vision is a world with no more deaths because of breast cancer, with quality of life for every breast cancer patient
Alma Zois’ mission is that every breast cancer patient in Greece has psychosocial support and information about her health, her professional life and her everyday life. Also, our goal is that every woman is informed for breast cancer, the importance and the methods of early detection.

Our Story
Est. 1988
In 1988, eight breast cancer patients came together, after the initiative and consultation of Metaxas Hospital Head of Social Service, Mrs Iosifina Skourta.
Breast Cancer brought them together.
They had common experiences, common concerns and the same passion for life.
Their goal was to help themselves as well as other women with the same experience.
At a time when breast cancer was a taboo, those women united creating “Alma Zois”.
